The National Ballet of Zimbabwe?

I found this article talking about a French Choreographer who was touring Africa with his company and while there taught class for the National Company in Zimbabwe. I had to do a double take, I was completely unaware of that there was a company in that area. I started searching the web for any information concerning the company with not much success. However i have stumbled across several things… I found a former dancer there, a Mr. Malcolm Burn who is the Artistic Associate and Ballet Master of Ballet Richmond, and what I think is a company newsletter. If anyone else out there knows more about this company please provide me with more information. I am very eager to hear more about this company.

  1. Maybe something is happening in Africa http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0807/p14s02-legn.html have a look…

  2. Hi. I live in South Africa and am the International Representative for Africa for the Royal Academy of Dance, London. I consequently have had to research dance/ballet in Zimbabwe and was also delighted to learn of a ballet company in existence.
Due to limited sources of funding, Zimbabwe has one classical ballet company, The National Ballet Company of Zimbabwe, and a professional contemporary dance company, the Tumbuka Contemporary Dance Company. Both fall under the Dance Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ). Dancers in the National Ballet Company of Zimbabwe are not paid but gain valuable performance experience.

  3. Thanks so much for the information! I’ve been dying to hear more on this from someone there. Do you know where I can acquire more information on these companies via the web? Or perhaps get in touch with them personally? Thanks again for sharing!
