Here is a great example of some of the great things you can find over on Greenroommag. Hamburg Ballet posted a link to this fantastic video created by Ryan Woodward and his Conte Animated project. Mr Woodward has combined his passion for animation with his interest in contemporary dance with amazing results. If you were to glance underneath this post you would see that it has been a loooong time since anything has happened here on dancebuzz. One might assume that this site here is kaput… Well, it kind of is. However efforts have been redirected to an exciting new project over at Greenroommag this is a site that aggregates twitter feeds from dance companies all over the world, keeping all the exciting news at your finger tips. On Greenroommag you can comment on posts and re post to twitter and facebook. This is in Beta mode and we’re constantly thinking of ways to improve so we want to hear from you! No i’m not back… but some day…

So haven’t posted here in a super long time. Have to say one of the factors is that one year ago when i started this… i didn’t have a job. So lots of time on my hands. As of now i’m working with Hubbard St 2 and am currently criss crossing the south east (FL, NC, SC, GA). So its been hard to post.

Anyway I just wanted to put in a quick little, “i’m alive”, and let anyone who might come across this know that in response to my last post concerning suggestions, etc. that there are some pretty big plans to get this thing back off the ground offering a whole lot more too. nothing here yet… but keep your eyes peeled. hope all is well. cheers

I’ve currently been on hiatus pursuing the whole job/career thing. So please excuse the delay. I’m currently trying to get things back up and running… We’ll see how that works.

Anyway I recently received a response from Carmen concerning the state of ballet in Zimbabwe her post is as follows…

“Hi. I live in South Africa and am the International Representative for Africa for the Royal Academy of Dance, London. I consequently have had to research dance/ballet in Zimbabwe and was also delighted to learn of a ballet company in existence.
Due to limited sources of funding, Zimbabwe has one classical ballet company, The National Ballet Company of Zimbabwe, and a professional contemporary dance company, the Tumbuka Contemporary Dance Company. Both fall under the Dance Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ). Dancers in the National Ballet Company of Zimbabwe are not paid but gain valuable performance experience.”

I want to hear from the few occasional readers on this site. I’m looking to eventually create some sort of dance based webzine and I want to know what information you guys are looking for when it comes to dance? Do you want to read interviews with choreographers? Or just have links to a bunch or random dance sites on the web so you can kill a few more hours? This is actually quite old news. 27th of September, 2006 old in fact. But I had never heard of it and thought it entertaining none the less. I myself have done many school performances and may think twice about signing up for anymore outreach programs in the future fearing for my life. Or at least for my nose. Intrigued yet? read the article.

Adidas/Stella McCartney

OK I realize its been quite a while… Sometimes life gets in the way of blogging, what else can i say.

Today I cam across something pretty interesting. Its a collaboration between Adidas and fashion designer Stella McCartney. The line is designed for Yoga but as you can see its influences draw heavily from ballet/dancewear. For people who are tired of wearing hand me downs the Stella/Adidas line is very stylish and highly functional. The only problem for me is its only made for women.

Three Atmospheric Studies

This Thursday at the University of California, Berkeley and then on the 28th of February at the Brooklyn Academy of Music there will be the North American premiere of William Forsythe’s latest work “Three Atmospheric Studies”. The New York Times has a fantastic article talking with Mr. Forsythe about this piece, I suggest you all read; click here. It talks about the political message of the piece. Its always hard for artists to take a political stand through their work without seeming cheap and tacky. So it was very interesting to read his thoughts regarding the war on Iraq and art in general. So please go out and see the show if you’re in those areas and read the article!

Celia Franca Passes

Celia Franca founder of the National Ballet of Canada died today at the age of 85. Born in London, Celia, came to Canada in 1951 when she was asked to help start a national company. She continued to serve as artistic director to the company for 24 years bringing in international stars such as Rudolf Nureyev. You can find more info on the National Ballet of Canada’s home site.
